Eco Church

Eco Church is A Rocha UK’s award scheme for churches in England and Wales who want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth.

Eco Church is run by A Rocha UK in partnership with Christian Aid, the Church of England, the Methodist Church, and Tearfund. Our vision is for the new scheme to create a vast network of churches as local centres of creation care in the community – shining beacons of hope for a brighter environmental future.

At the heart of Eco Church is a unique, online survey that enables churches to both record what they are already doing to care for God’s earth, and to reflect on what further steps they can take to that end and then act accordingly.

In conjunction with the churchwardens, the Eco Church team has completed the online survey and identified achievable action points for St James’. These began in March with an Eco-themed Messy Church and Sunday morning service, and will continue throughout the year. The aim is to have achieved a bronze award by the end of 2022.

Each month will have a focus

• March - Launch

• April - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

• May - ‘Green Fingers’ month

• June - Spend it well month

• July - Walk to church month
